ABOUT US

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to advance the understanding of the effects of sedentary behaviors and physical activity on cognitive and brain health across the adult lifespan. We combine traditional physical activity interventions with novel approaches to reducing sitting with brief bouts of physical activity. Using experimental and observational designs, we investigate physiological (e.g., cardio-metabolic biomarkers, adiposity, and aerobic fitness) and psychophysiological mediators underlying the relationships between sedentary behavior, physical activity, and cognitive and brain functions. Our laboratory combines objective physical activity and sedentary behavior monitoring (e.g., accelerometry, heart rate telemetry), measures of aerobic fitness, and adiposity with electroencephalography (EEG) and rigorous cognitive paradigms. We also explore the relationships between physical activity, sedentary behaviors, and resting state functional connectivity using precollected datasets.
